Team London is the capital’s government supported volunteering programme to get more Londoners to volunteer. I was part of a team that worked on a multi-year engagement with Team London to launch 3 digital products.
Team London knows that people want to volunteer, but they often don’t know how to get involved. The digital platform and the mobile apps help remove barriers to volunteering by making it quick and easy for people to find volunteer opportunities that align with their skills and interests.
I provided information architecture, interaction design and visual design. I also served as project manager.
Nominated for a Webby Award in the Mobile City and Innovation category. The Cities of Service platform which powers the website has been recognized by the AIGA twice.
“Since 2013, the Cloudred designed site and app have helped Team London recruit over 21,000 volunteers to support over 3,500 small charities and non-profits. The impact this has had on the community is enormous.”
— Reid Aiton, Communications Manager for Deputy Mayor (Social Integration, Social Mobility & Community Engagement)
Create content that is appropriate for the medium/device
Completely mirroring the website in the app wasn’t going to make for a unique mobile user experience. For mobile devices, I worked with the client to feature content that leverages the mobile experience. Specifically, the app features different volunteering opportunities, shorter 1-time opportunities that lend themselves better for drop-in situations.
Create a unique visual style that humanizes the product
I made it a priority to make these apps as personable as possible. Because volunteering is completely people-based, I insisted that we on-board the app with actual photography of London volunteers. Bold colors were used to infuse the app with personality.
